Getting a flat tire is something that happens to every driver at least once in their lifetime. It’s not necessarily the most dangerous of situations, but it is best if you know to quickly resolve the issue. For starters, it’s good driving practice to keep a jack, tire iron, and spare tire in your car at all times. That way if you ever get a flat tire, you’ll be able to quickly remedy it. When you get a flat tire, make sure to pull off to the side of the road. You want to be in a safe and secure area where you can replace your tire without the threat of oncoming traffic.
To start, use the tire iron to loosen the wheel lugs on the flat tire; don’t remove them completely. Then, place the jack under the frame of your vehicle and begin to raise it. Keep raising the jack until both the vehicle and the flat tire are about six inches off the floor. Now, use the tire iron to remove the wheel lugs and then remove the flat tire itself. Replace it with the spare tire and tighten the wheel lugs back onto the tire. Then, go ahead and lower the jack until the vehicle comes in contact with the road again.
